Happy Halloween! More Costume and Makeup Inspiration

Wednesday fridy'

For my final costume this year, I came up with two different looks for two different days (Wednesday and today) with the same basic concept. Wednesday was a little more elf princess, and today is a little more forest sprite/goblin, but the antlers are the centrepiece in both cases:

For some process shots, check out the post on how it was made (this was a way more complicated process than I had planned, and there are a few things I will do differently in the future if I make these again, but the end result works for the costume, and that’s what really matters): https://appleofmyoddeye.wordpress.com/2014/10/30/antlers-an-adventure-in-costuming/

And here are the costumes! I think today’s is better than Wednesday’s, but I do like some things about Wednesday’s makeup. Also, I apologise to any archers who may be offended by how inexpertly I hold that bow; in my defense, it is not designed to be a practical weapon–it’s very much for show!

I’m not the only one who got into the Halloween spirit. Devin dressed up for work today, and Ash was grinning like a Cheshire Cat at The Quilliad‘s launch and costume party last week (Devin went for a creepy costume for the launch as well):

Looking at my family, it’s not hard to see where my costume obsession comes from:

Antlers: an Adventure in Costuming

IMG_4007So I made antlers this week for Halloween. Despite having planned on making something simple, they became 100x  more complicated like all my other projects. The process shots show how crazy I went trying to problem solve along the way:

The end result looks like something between tree branches and antlers, but I’ve decided I’m happy with them. I think if I were to make antlers again, I’d coat them in clay before painting. I’ll be posting full-costume shots tomorrow.

Halloween Makeup and Costume Inspiration

Hey, everyone.

We’re very into Halloween at Apple of my Odd Eye, and we’ve had a few opportunities to dress up already for The Quilliad‘s fourth issue launch party and for a backyard party. I really got into my costumes (so far) this year and thought I’d share my obsession with you.

Having decided to wear a different costume for each Halloween-themed event I go to this year, I have already spent much of this last week in thrift stores and costume stores assembling my costumes, and several hours on both faces combined. In my opinion, it was worth it–I felt super spooky. So far, it’s corpse/dead bride and Little Red Riding Werewolf down, dryad/forest spirit/elf still to go.

Big thanks to my mom for making the red hood for me and to Devin for dressing up as my corpse groom for The Quilliad‘s launch:
