“Hyacinths” by Sarah Y. Varnam

We’ve been quiet at Apple of my Odd Eye for a while, but that’s because we’ve been busy entering art competitions, working on commissions, and submitting to festivals. If you check our events page, you can see some of what we’ll be up to in the future. Today is the reception for the Scarborough Big Arts Book that Sarah’s painting-photography is featured in, and you’ll note that The Quilliad‘s Issue 3 Launch Party and Art Show has been moved to Saturday, June 7.

“Hyacinths” is for the Dupont DIG Flower festival.

More Jewelry from Apple of my Odd Eye

Earrings by Ashley Pleasant

Earrings by Ashley Pleasant

As some of you know, a couple of the members of Apple of my Odd Eye have been working on jewelry. While Sarah has been working on jellyfish and scarab beetles (new pieces below), Ashley has been working on some colourful earrings and pin-back buttons of her own:

And here are Sarah’s new pieces, also listed on Apple of my Odd Eye’s Etsy:

Jellyfish Inspiration

Yesterday we posted a bunch of new jellyfish- and beetle-themed jewelry that Sarah’s been making. We also mentioned that the jewelry was inspired by some jellyfish art Ashley has been working on, so we got Ashley to send a few photos of what she’s working on to show you:

The bright blue background really brings the painting to life, doesn’t it?

You can find the jewelry this piece inspired on our Etsy: https://www.etsy.com/ca/shop/AppleOfMyOddEye.

The Next Big Art Project at Apple of my Odd Eye: Jewelry

Continuing the new trend toward wearable and usable art at Apple of my Odd Eye, we’ve started making jewelery. In addition to the earrings Ashley Pleasant introduced at the Bazaar of the Bizarre, we now have some vaguely steampunk jellyfish and beetles available from Sarah.

You can see close-ups of the pieces below. We’ve also added some of these pieces to our Etsy. If something here interests you and isn’t listed in our shop, or you would like something similar custom made, email us at appleofmyoddeye@gmail.com.

In addition to the art chapbooks we recently put together, Apple of my Odd Eye is working on a couple of other projects as well.

First, there are the t-shirt designs we’ve been testing out:

Second, there are the decorative boxes we’ve been working on:

Apple of my Odd Eye’s Bizarre Adventures

Apple of my Odd Eye spent yesterday (Sunday, March 30) at the Bazaar of the Bizarre‘s Circus Sideshow 2014. Some highlights from the day included checking out the other stalls, taking candied nuts from strangers, sharing food and conversations with other vendors (including Victoria the goldsmith and the tall, mohawked woman in our photos–see below), and chatting with an adorable little girl in a balloon tutu complete with octopus tentacles (she even gave Sarah a free croissant–for vendors at an art show, a lot of the fun we had seems to have revolved around food . . .).

If you weren’t able to check out the bazaar this time around, we encourage you to drop by another time–it’s a great show (we have trouble not buying everything ourselves, and the company is great–so many fun people). If you were hoping to buy some art, you still can! We’ll be at several shows over the year. You can also find our art for sale at our Zazzle and Etsy stores (more Etsy listings will be up over the next few days).

Sarah’s Art at Hip 2B Square

Some of the Apple of my Odd Eye crew headed down to Goodfellas Gallery near Queen West and Dufferin in Toronto yesterday for the opening of the Queen West Art Crawl’s fundraiser show, Hip 2B Square. AOMOE artist Sarah had a piece up, and we were curious to see what other artists had offered the market. Check out our photos from the event:

As you can see, there were quite a few interesting pieces and a lot of variety.

If you’d like to see more Toronto art (and/or check out more Apple of my Odd Eye art), come to the Bazaar of the Bizarre: Circus Sideshow 2014 tomorrow (Sunday, March 30)!
